Species of Spaces
Exhibition: Rebekah Templeton Contemporary Art, 173 W. Girard Street, Philadelphia 19123
Opening Reception: June 2, 6-8pm with sound performance by Austen Brown
Dates: June 2 – 30, 2012
For this exhibition, Eads will transform the gallery into an overwhelming visual, aural, and gastral experience using painting, sound, sculpture, prints, and food. The title of the exhibition is loosely based on Georges Perec’s book of the same name. The book features contemplations on the ways in which we occupy urban and domestic space and offers thought-provoking examinations of the ordinary. The opening reception for Species of Spaces will include a sound performance by Austen Brown. Brown will be creating experimental distortions using sounds made by the mechanisms in the exhibition.
For Species of Spaces, Eads will create an environment that will “bombard your ears as you try to make sense of the visual chaos. Embedded in the disorder will be moments of clarity and order in the form of beautiful geometric prints. When you land back on earth, your mouth will be filled with the perfect food. Are they chips? Are they fries? You’ll completely forget you’re at an art opening.”
